Alocasia Imperial Red
A hybrid of the Odora and the Macorrhiza. An easy-to-grow large upright. Alocasia are known for their uniquely patterned and beautifully large and delicate foliage. The Imperial Red features deep red stems and ruffled green leaves. Imperial Red sets itself apart from the other Alocasia with its red stems. I know all of you Alocasia lovers will want to have this one! Likes a spot with gentle morning sun and/or bright indirect light. Our late summer sun may be just too much for this Alocasia. You will know your Alocasia is getting too much sun when it looks like it went to the beach and did not apply sunscreen! Just as the other Alocasia yellowing or browning leaves are letting you know it is getting too much sun. In its happy place reaches 4 feet tall at maturity. Likes light shade/bright indirect light. Likes moist soil but not soggy soil. Well-draining soil is a must! Use as an accent plant. In a mixed planting bed. Grow in containers and place on your patio, porch, lanai, or inside your pool cage. The Alocasia will give you that pop of the Tropics. Easy to grow. Low maintenance! Cold hardy zone 9 Drought tolerant Somewhat! Most plants like a regular watering schedule but the Imperial Red likes moist soil too. Does not like Freezing temps should be covered with nursery frost cloth during our brief cold snaps or brought indoors if container plant. It is said to be deer-resistant. Toxic to children and pets.....should be in an area that is not accessible to the little munchers. Fertilize every two weeks during the growing season with a good water-soluble 20-20-20 fertilizer. Remember to follow the manufacturer's instructions for application.
