Clusia Trees and shrubs aka autograph plant
They are excellent as hedges, or large accent plants, or grow them as a wall of privacy and/or shade. What a hedge they make!!!! They can also be made into small trees. Clusia is a great low-maintenance plant that has thick, leathery leaves that are shaped like a fat teardrop or paddle. As a hedge, it has a low branching pattern which makes it a nice choice for privacy. Its unique texture adds that extra dimension to your landscape. As a tree, you may want to let it grow as much as 25 feet or give it a hard trim each spring to control its height and shape. However, a minor trim is said to be best to allow the tree to continue with its unusual growth and natural shape. It makes a great small tree and an outstanding single-yard specimen. Makes a great hedge too! Cold hardy zone 9. Drought tolerant, salt-tolerant, and said to be deer resistant. What's not to love about this beautiful eclectic plant? They grow well in containers too! Put a few on your patio, porch, or pool deck. You can also container grow outside your pool cage or lanai. Toxic to dogs, cats, horses, and cattle. Put in an area not accessible to your little munchers. Fertilize in the spring, summer, and fall with a good slow-release tropical granular fertilizer. Remember to follow the manufacturer's instructions for application.
