Philodendron Congo Rojo
A hybrid variety of Philodendron that is considered an indoor and outdoor favorite. It produces large glossy heart-shaped bright burgundy leaves that have a tinge of green while small and then totally green at maturity. They make a statement against its popping red stems. Its bold color and texture make this a perfect plant for indoors, as well as a focal point in the outside landscape. Prefers moist fertile well draining soil. A bright indirect light location. Likes fertilizer during the growing season. Cold hardy zone 9b. Like temperature to be 65 to 80 degrees. Said to be drought tolerant. Toxic to petsso put in an area that is not accessible to your little munchers. All philodendrons have stems that contain liquid that can cause skin irritation. When pruning be sure to wear gloves. Said to be Deer-resistant. Is not frost-friendly - cover with a good nursery frost cloth during our brief cold snaps or bring it indoors if container growing. Not tolerant of our hot summer afternoon son and temps. Ensure you plant in a shady area. Said to be Humidity-resistant. Moist soil is preferred by not wet soil. Prune in the spring and summer when growing - this will allow the plant to recover quickly. Use in a container inside your home or on a patio, pool deck, inside your pool cage, or in your lanai. When growing indoors keep out of the cold/warm drafts it would receive from your AC/heat vents. Its texture and bold colors make it a perfect tropical accent no matter where you choose to put it. Fertilize in the spring and summer with a well-balanced slow-release tropical fertilizer. Remember to follow the manufacturer's instructions for application.
