A beautiful tropical plant that is native to the Pacific islands and Southeast Azia. This cordyline produces a striking broad leathery leaf shaped like a spear with a variety of colors - green, red, yellow, white, purple, and purple-red. It also produces a colorful red vein. Its leaves are larger/wider than most. Makes a wonderful indoor plant and a more stunting plant in the landscape. It adds that pop of color that your eyes are drawn to. It likes a bright indirect sunlight area in the landscape and indoors. Like all cordyline it loves to stay moist but not wet - excess water can cause root rot. Likes high-quality soil that is well-draining - in the pot and in the ground! Reduce your watering schedule during the winter months and you may need to increase it during the spring, summer, and fall. During our very hot summer months, your Harlequin may require a drink during our hot summer afternoons. Growing indoors during the winter is ideal but keep out of the direct line of the AC/heat vent. A breeze too hot or too cold can affect your cordyline. Cold hardy in zone 9 and can be grown in the ground in your landscape. Most cordylines are considered to be drought tolerant but prefer a regular watering schedule. Considered to be an easy-maintenance plant. Not a particularly quick grower. Low maintenance plant. Trim off winter damage, storm damage, or winter wind damage in early spring. They say deer never damage cordyline - deer resistant. Cordyline is toxic to all pets. Plant in an area not accessible to your little munchers. Feed in the spring with a good granular slow-release tropical fertilizer. During the growing season, you can use a liquid 20-20-20 to fertilize as well. Remember to follow the manufacturer's instructions for application. #StayHealthyGetDirty! #GardeningTheNewAmericanPastime!
