Loropedlum
This red beauty is considered to be a semi-evergreen broadleaf that grows in an upright dense fashion into a mushroom shape at maturity. It's covered in an amazingly deep, dark purple/slightly colored foliage throughout the summer. In early to mid-spring it's covered in reddish-pink/dark hot pink tassels. These flowers are eye-catching and are a real standout in the landscape. Cold hardy zone 9. Likes a full sun to part shade location in the landscape with moist well-draining soil. At maturity can reach 5 to 8 feet tall but can be kept easily at 4 to 6feet tall with some trimming and considered to be drought tolerant once established. It's not salt-tolerant. Said to be deer-resistant. Fertilize in the spring, summer, and fall with a good slow-release granular fertilizer. Remember to follow the manufacturer's instructions for application.
