Majesty Palm aka Ravenea Glauca

A tropical evergreen perennial that produces a beautiful green canopy and amazing thick heavy trunks.  Feathery fronds that are long, arching, and majestic.  Hence its name.  Its fronds can reach 6 to 8 feet long so put in a location that can accommodate its spread. Produces a small yellowish-white flower as it matures and then fleshy berries/fruit that are round and green initially but turn orange-red when they mature.  Likes a full sun to shade location in the landscape.  It can reach a height of 15-20 feet tall at maturity. When growing indoors put in a bright indirect light location out of the line of the draft that comes from your AC/heat vents.  Works well indoors but as it gets larger you will need to move to an outdoor location to accommodate its size.    The cold hardy zone is said to be 10 to 11.   However, we are growing in zone 9. Said to be easy to grow. Likes a humid, bright, indirect light location.  Moderately drought prefers moist soil and a regular watering schedule.  Said to be moderately salt tolerant.  It's said to not be toxic to pets.  Indicated that deer are not usually interested in this beauty.    Works well indoors and outdoors.  Looking for a palm that everyone doesn't have?  Then this is the one for you.    Fertilize in the spring, summer, and fall with a good granular slow-release palm mixture.  Remember to follow the manufacturer's instructions for application.
