Podocarpus Maki aka Podocaprus Macrophyllus aka Yew Podocarpus
An evergreen with dense foliage is considered to be a slow grower. Looks somewhat like spruce. Produces edible purple fruit. Its amazing dark green foliage creates a wonderful privacy hedge. It can be used along a property line or fence. Along a walkway, driveway or your home. Use as an accent plant. Cold hardy zone 9. Said to be drought tolerant once established. Tolerant of our heat and humidity. Also, salt tolerant. And yes, said to be deer resistant. Good source of food for small animals and birds. Can reach 30 to 40 feet tall at maturity or easily kept at a shorter height for a hedge. Likes a full sun spot in your landscape with well-draining soil. Fertilize in the spring, summer, and fall with a good granular slow-release wood ornamental blend. Remember to follow the manufacturer's instructions for application.
