Stromanthe Sanguinea Triostar aka Magenta Triostar, Stromanthe, Tricolor ginger, or Triostar
A member of the prayer plant family. Has an amazingly variegated foliage and its leaves fold up at night. It has incredible green, cream, and red leaves with beautiful pink hues. However, this plant requires a bit of TLC to keep it healthy and happy. It grows best under indirect light and doesn't like being in our direct summer sun. So it's best to place your plant in an indirectly well-lit warm spot in your landscape. You can grow inside your home in that somewhat dark indirect lit section of your family room, dining room, etc. At maturity, it will reach 2 to 3 feet tall with a spread of 1 to 2 feet. And with the right amount of care, the Tristar will add an enormous tropical splash to your landscape. Prefers a regular watering schedule - keep it slightly damp but not soggy and/or wet soil. If growing indoors mist regularly as it loves a humid environment such as our hot summer humid days! It is susceptible to fungus and aphids so keep your eyes open. Said not to be toxic to pets. When growing indoors keep out of the drafts from your ac/heat vents. Loves temperatures between 65 and 85 degrees. A heavy feeder during the growing season. Not a fan of frost so cover during ou our brief winter cold snaps or bring it indoors. Cold hardy zone 9B. Not salt tolerant so plant where it will be protected from any salty winds. Said to be deer-resistant too! It is also said to be popular with bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds when in bloom! Fertilize with a good granular slow-release fertilizer in the spring, summer, and fall. Remember to follow the manufacturer's instructions for application.
